As the World Burns
Athasian dwarves have the same stature as dwarves of other worlds – short, with broad chests and powerful muscles. Most have developed a deep tan from years laboring in the hot sun, with calloused hands and feet. Unlike on most other worlds, dwarves have little to no body hair and no beards whatsoever, likely an adaptation to the blistering heat of the crimson sun.
Dwarves are best known for their single-mindedness, and once a dwarf puts his mind to a task almost nothing can stop him. Whether it is a feat of engineering, a unique craft or an act of revenge, they will fix their minds on the task, refusing to leave it incomplete. Many dedicate their entire lives to a single purpose and never waver from it.
Dwarves have no lands of their own, and live among the rest of the populace as herders and builders. Their history has been lost as well, and their system of writing has been forgotten. No dwarf alive on Athas today can read the Davek script, and even magical means cannot penetrate its meaning. Either this is a fluke, or there is something written in their histories that was dangerous enough to warrant the total eradication of literacy among them.
