As the World Burns
Elves are tall, long-legged desert rovers whose tribes run across the wastes of Athas. They are wanderers – herders and traders, raiders and thieves, and sometimes all of these at once. Each city-state hosts its own Elven Market, where elves bring their wares, gathered from all over the Tyr region (some legitimately, some not), for trade. They are known as lazy and deceitful, and will not hesitate to lie to, cheat, or steal from an outsider. They do this not out of malice, but out of a desire to separate the undeserving and gullible from their money.
Elven tribes are fast; in the desert plains they can travel 40 miles a day on foot. Elves in general refuse to ride on beasts of burden, considering it to be shameful, and only do so if gravely injured or sick. Their speed allows them to escape punishment for even the most brazen acts of lawlessness or theft – if a sorcerer-king sends kank-mounted cavalry after the tribe, he might very well find that they can outdistance him.
